LUBLIN2016 - the European Capital of Culture - Candidate
Lublin is a candidate for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2016. Lublin is a city of rich history and multicultural tradition; it’s the Gateway to the East, the city of the Lublin Union, a place where various cultures, nations and religions have coexisted for centuries. Lublin is a city of students, a thriving academic centre filled with energy and showing a great potential. Lublin is the city of artists and cultural animators, but also the city of dedicated and demanding audiences. The wide variety of culture events is continuously being enriched; it includes festivals, plays, concerts, exhibitions, meetings, discussion panels, unique architecture and historical monuments, all of which make Lublin a city where artistic life flourishes. The expenditure on culture has been rising since 2007, long-expected cultural investments are being made, culture appears in new spaces, new initiatives are being developed and various cultural events are being organized. The European Capital of Culture title is a great opportunity to promote Lublin and its cultural life in Europe, to boost investment and facilitate economic growth, to attract tourists from all over the world. For Lubliners it is also an opportunity to participate in the preparations and to share in the joy of success. Winning the title depends on the support and involvement of as many inhabitants as possible.
