The committee organising the Night of the Culture informs that the Night of the Culture 2012 shall take place on the 2nd/3rd of July 2012 (Saturday/Sunday).
The date and the theme of this year’s edition of the Night of the Culture are occasioned by the European Football Championship taking place in Poland and Ukraine. It is an exceptional moment for both of these countries. Just because Lublin is not one of the official host cities, it does not mean that the atmosphere of the event shall pass us by. Taking use of this occasion and our contacts with Ukraine, Lublin wants to present itself as the leader of the cooperation with the East and is willing to start the celebrations from the City Carnival – the Night of the Culture.
During the June night preceding EURO 2012, Lublin will become a great arena of culture, where the cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations, artists, culture animators from Poland and Ukraine will create together an amazing event of surprising panache and dynamics and of great Eastern culture potential. The theme of “East” was omnipresent throughout our actions in the ECoC 2016 competition. The sense of European community is felt much stronger in Lublin and exceeds the boundaries established by the EU.
Certainly, the theme of Lublin and Ukraine does not reject the artistic and social propositions that are not East-oriented; it is only the main idea that glues the event all together.
The Night of the Culture crew has also prepared new presumptions and new strategy for the organisation of the event this year and during the upcoming years. It is certain that the Workshops of Culture will accept more responsibilities, organisational and logistical ones, and they will have more impact on the Night of the Culture programme.
