Limericks are short humorous poems that pack a punch of silliness, often venturing into the delightfully absurd.  Typically, they consist of five lines with a set number of stressed syllables. They usually a specific pattern: the first line introduces the main character and the setting, the second line develops the action, the third and fourth lines rhyme, and the fifth line provides a humorous resolution to the described situation.
