Transparency – art installation | Hanna Popruha
About
What drives us to act morally: inner conviction or the pervasive sense of being watched? This thought-provoking installation explores the tension between conscience and external control. Throughout history, moral behaviour has been shaped by the gaze of others—be it divine oversight, social pressure, or community reputation.
This external observation has evolved from religious doctrines to today’s widespread surveillance cameras and online visibility. As digital technologies restore a watchful “community eye,” our actions are increasingly lived in public view. This contemporary context compels crucial questions: Who holds the gaze now? And in navigating life under this omnipresent observation, are we inadvertently sacrificing privacy, perhaps even making the ‘omnipresent observer’ a self-fulfilling prophecy?
