Trynitarska Tower – tours

About

The Lublin skyline boasts a prominent landmark – the Trinitarian Tower. Its imposing stature today belies its humble beginnings. In its early days, it served as a mere gate within the Jesuit College buildings, nestled against the city walls. However, a remarkable transformation unfolded in 1819. Under the visionary design of Antonio Corazzi, the 60-metre tower emerged as a proud symbol of Lublin, its neogothic grandeur dominating the cityscape.

The tower’s construction, completed in 1827, showcased an exquisite blend of architectural styles. Its neogothic facade, characterised by pointed arches and intricate ornamentation, seamlessly integrated with an octagonal superstructure adorned with a conical roof covered with sheet metal.

Since then, the appearance of the tower has not undergone major transformations despite renovation work. During World War II, during the bombing of Lublin, the roof and windows of the tower were damaged, and the interior was devastated. The last renovation, carried out in the years 1975–1978, was done for the needs of the Archdiocesan Museum, which has its seat there to this day.

Atop the tower stands a weather vane in the form of a rooster, a figure steeped in local legend. According to folklore, this vigilant sentinel once warned the inhabitants of the “Goat Town” of impending danger. To this day, the rooster is said to watch over the city, a symbol of unwavering protection.

Ascend the 207 steps leading to the tower’s observation deck and prepare to be awestruck by the breathtaking panorama of Lublin.
